Word Templates in Business Central

Introduction

Word Templates, a built-in feature of Business Central, enable you to create your email body content report without any technical knowledge.

You can use this in-built functionality to send emails such as Balance Confirmation, Vendor or Customer Master Confirmation, and others.

Prerequisite

Business Central On-Premise or Cloud.

Setup

  • Choose the search icon, enter “Word Templates” and then choose the Word Templates.

  • A page for Word Templates will open and click on “Create a Template”

  • The page for creating a Word Template will open and click on Add new Entity.

  • Select the customer table ID from the list, because we are now going to create the report or email body content for the customer. Click the “Ok”.

  • After selecting the customer table, click on “Next”.

  • Click on “Download a Blank Template” from Create a Word Template page. The template is downloaded to the local system in Zip format.

  • Unzip the file and Open the Word Template. Click on “Yes”.

  • Under the Mailing Tab Click on Insert Merge Field. Where we get the list of fields is the customer table.

  • Creating the Customer Master Confirmation Report or Body email. Save the Word file.

  • Upload the Word Document and click on “Next”.

  • Specify the code for your word template and click on “Next”.

  • Finish the create the word template.

Test Scenario

A customer master confirmation will now be sent via the “Sent email” and the body content will be a Word document that we created.

  • Open the customer master and click on “Sent Email”.

  • Compose Email Page will open and Click on “Use Word Template”.

  • Choose the word template from the list we created and click on “Finish”.

  • As a result, we’ve inserted our format.
    The finalized email in Business Central with customer data automatically populated from the Word Template.
